The Power of a Mid-Year Pause

When I mapped out this year's content for DMR Consulting Group, I had a plan.

Each month was designed to build on the last, exploring themes like Purpose, Process, Plan, Alignment, and Recalibration. July was supposed to continue that progression with another thoughtful reflection on what healthy teams have been learning along the way. But as July arrived, I found myself paying attention to something else.
People are tired. I'm tired. Teams are tired.
Summer has a different rhythm. Schedules shift. Vacations interrupt routines. Energy changes.
My first instinct was to keep going with the plan, but then I stopped, paid attention, and I pivoted.
And the more I thought about it, the more I realized that this isn't a departure from what DMR Consulting Group has been saying all year- it's an example of it. Changing the plan was actually an opportunity to practice what has been highlighted.
Healthy teams pay attention, and they recognize when what worked before may need to be adjusted. They don't continue forward simply because something has already been decided. Instead, they make thoughtful changes based on what they are learning.
That is not a sign of failure. It is a sign of awareness.

So, this month, instead of adding another layer of work, I decided to create space for a pause.
A pause does not mean the work stops. Intentional pauses give us room to recognize progress, acknowledge challenges, and reconnect with what matters most. Pauses help us see things that can become invisible when we are constantly moving.
At DMR Consulting Group, we talk a lot about reflection as a practice—not something we wait to do after something goes wrong, but something healthy organizations build into their rhythm.
As we move through this summer season, I hope you give yourself and your team permission to pause. And when it's time to move forward again, we can do so with greater clarity, renewed energy, and a stronger sense of purpose.
